About

Despite its tiny toy-sized stature, the Yorkshire Terrier possesses the boldness, energy, and confidence of a much larger dog. Intelligent and responsive to obedience training, it thrives under firm guidance but can become yappy, snappy, and demanding if allowed to develop bad habits. With proper handling, the breed showcases its natural temperament: affectionate, loyal, and spirited. Originally bred to catch rats and mice in the wool mills and mines of northern England, the Yorkshire Terrier was gradually miniaturized through selective breeding. Over time, it became a fashionable accessory carried by high-society women. However, pampering is contrary to its active nature—this lively little dog is happiest when given at least half an hour of exercise daily. The long, glossy show coat, a hallmark of the breed, requires meticulous care, often wrapped in folded papers and secured with bands outside the show ring to maintain its luxurious texture.
