The ancestors of this breed were introduced to Uruguay by Spanish and Portuguese settlers and later crossed with local dogs. Developed by farmers in the remote Cerro Largo region, the Uruguayan Cimarron was bred for guarding and herding. Like many working breeds, it thrives best with an experienced owner if kept as a companion.
