Also referred to as the Bosnian and Herzegovinian-Croatian Shepherd Dog, the Tornjak has only recently gained recognition beyond its native lands. For centuries, this breed has protected flocks in the Dinaric Alps, but systematic breeding only began in 1978. A large and powerful dog, the Tornjak is intelligent and trainable but thrives best under the care of an experienced owner with ample space for exercise.
