With a long history of protecting livestock in the Himalayas, the Tibetan Mastiff has strong guarding instincts. In its homeland, it remains a formidable and cautious breed, but in Western countries, selective breeding has softened its temperament. While it makes a good house dog and loyal companion, it is not overly affectionate and requires patience and consistency in training.
