Still actively used for protecting and herding livestock in Poland’s high Tatra mountains, this large and striking breed is equally devoted to guarding the home. While typically gentle and well-behaved with familiar faces, the Tatra Shepherd Dog is highly protective and will not hesitate to act if it senses danger. To keep this breed as a companion, experienced handling and firm yet fair training are necessary, along with careful monitoring to prevent aggression. Its dense coat sheds heavily and requires regular grooming.
