Known in Germany as the Heidewachtel, or “heath quail dog,” this breed was originally used to flush game birds. Though cheerful and affectionate, it remains primarily a working dog, with hunters eagerly claiming most of the limited number bred each year. Despite its name, the Small Munsterlander is not directly related to the Large Munsterlander.
