Once bred for boar hunting, the Italian Segugio Italiano is now primarily used for tracking hare and rabbits. This breed is both an agile sprinter and a long-distance runner with remarkable stamina. Typically calm and quiet, it becomes highly vocal when working, producing a distinctive high-pitched bark. With proper training, it is good with children and other dogs, but it requires regular exercise and access to open spaces. Naturally cautious, even a well-trained Segugio Italiano may instinctively chase small animals if given the chance. This breed comes in two coat types: wire-haired and short-haired.
