Also known as the Swiss Hound, this keen-nosed tracker moves effortlessly across Alpine terrain. Bred for its exceptional scenting ability, it specializes in tracking hare, fox, and roe deer with its long muzzle. There are four distinct varieties—Bernese, Lucerne, Schwyz Laufhund, and Bruno Jura—each named after a Swiss canton and identifiable by its coat color. (A fifth variety, the Thurgovia, is now extinct.) With its finely sculpted head and well-proportioned body, the Schweizer Laufhund exudes nobility. At home, it is relaxed and docile.
