Believed to have been mummified alongside pharaohs in the Sumerian Empire, the Saluki—named after an ancient city—is highly prized in the Middle East for its exceptional speed over sand. Traditionally used for hunting alongside falcons, it is not an especially demonstrative pet and tends to be somewhat aloof. The breed has two coat varieties: smooth and feathered.
