Commonly referred to as the Portuguese Warren Hound, this breed has evolved into several distinct varieties, differing in size and coat type. Today’s dogs range from small (pequeno) to medium (medio) and large (grande), with coats that can be either short and smooth or wiry and moderately long. Traditionally used for hunting, many still serve that purpose in Portugal, working alone or in packs. Regardless of size, their intelligence and vigilance make them excellent watchdogs.
