Three additional sizes of Poodle—Toy, Miniature, and Medium—were bred from the Standard Poodle (though some kennel clubs do not recognize the Medium size). These smaller Poodles have always been popular companion dogs, especially in French royal courts between the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XVI. Elegant and adaptable, the Poodle is energetic, playful, affectionate, and eager to please. Its non-shedding coat makes it a popular choice for allergy sufferers, but it requires regular brushing and clipping.
