This large, fearless hound is built for vigorous pack hunting across rough terrain. Historically, it pursued the wolves that once roamed Poitou, located south of Vendée and Brittany in western France. Today, following several infusions of fresh bloodlines, this powerful and muscular breed excels in hunting wild boar and deer in packs. Known for its endurance, it will chase its quarry tirelessly through water and is highly vocal during hunts. It holds the distinction of being the longest-serving of the French pack hounds.
