Bred for hunting raccoons, this strong and brindled hound also takes on large game such as cougars, bears, coyotes, and wild boars. The Plott Hound is among the few breeds with an officially recognized American origin. Developed in the 1750s in the Smoky Mountains by the Plott family, its ancestors include boar-hunting Hanoverian Hounds brought from Germany.
