Also known as the Dutch Decoy Spaniel, this breed was originally used in a unique hunting method. By energetically wagging its flag-like tail and moving playfully without barking, it lured curious waterfowl into tunnel traps (“kooien”), allowing hunters to capture them alive. Today, it continues this work for researchers tagging and releasing birds. Though rare, the breed is known for its playful and affectionate nature, but it can be reserved around strangers.
