This sturdy little breed originated in Belgium, where it was initially kept as a stable dog and often rode in hansom cabs. With Affenpinscher ancestry, it comes in two coat varieties: the smooth-haired Petit Brabançon and the rough-haired variety, which features a distinctive beard. In some countries, rough-haired black-coated dogs are classified as Belgian Griffons, while those of other colors are known as Griffon Bruxellois. Fearless yet affectionate and adaptable, this breed enjoys both long walks and being pampered. However, it is not ideal for households with very young children.
