This breed, also known as the Hellenic Shepherd Dog, is believed to have descended from the sheepdogs brought into Greece centuries ago by Turkish migrants. Hardy, courageous, and a natural flock guardian and leader, the Greek Shepherd Dog possesses excellent working abilities but has a temperament that is too dominant to be a dependable family companion. It comes in two coat varieties: longhaired and short-haired.
