An exceptional hunting dog capable of tracking, pointing, and retrieving across diverse terrains, the German Pointer (Deutsch Kurzhaar) is both loyal and obedient. In Germany, it has always been valued as both a hunting and household companion. The breed is generally steady-tempered and reliable, though its high energy levels mean it can become hyperactive and destructive without sufficient exercise. Three coat variations exist: wire-haired, long-haired, and short-haired, with the German Short-haired Pointer (GSP) being the most widely recognized.
