Originally called the “cocking spaniel” due to its use in flushing woodcock and grouse, the English Cocker Spaniel is among the most popular spaniel breeds. Smaller than the English Springer Spaniel, it was bred to navigate dense undergrowth. Show dogs tend to be sturdier and heavier than their working counterparts, but both varieties make excellent pets.
