During the early 19th century, the Dalmatian was widely known in Britain as the “carriage dog,” trained to run alongside horse-drawn carriages and fire engines—sometimes covering long distances. The only spotted dog breed, it is intelligent, sociable, and energetic, making it a great companion. However, early training is crucial, as it can be stubborn and aggressive toward other dogs. Dalmatian puppies are born completely white, and their spots develop as they grow—either in black or liver shades. This breed's coat sheds heavily.
