Hairlessness is a characteristic found in several dog breeds worldwide, resulting from a genetic mutation that was initially seen as an oddity but later became desirable. These dogs do not shed hair, attract fleas, or have body odor. The Chinese Crested requires minimal grooming, but its delicate skin needs special care—a coat in winter for warmth and protection from the sun in summer to prevent burns and dryness. Due to its low activity level, this breed is unsuitable for highly active families but makes an ideal companion for older individuals, thanks to its cheerful, affectionate, and playful nature. There are two build types within the breed: the fine-boned "deer type" and the sturdier "cobby type".
