One of the most beloved small terriers, the "Westie" originated in Scotland during the 19th century, developed from the Cairn Terrier. Initially bred to hunt foxes, badgers, and vermin such as rats, this hardy little dog has since become a popular pet in both urban and rural settings. Energetic and playful, West Highland White Terriers thrive in active households and enjoy walks and playtime with children. However, early socialization is essential, as their strong personalities can sometimes make them dominant around other dogs.
