About

"Once a Boxer-owner, always a Boxer-owner"—this German breed is so full of personality that those who have owned one rarely consider another type of dog. Developed in the 19th century, the modern Boxer is believed to have descended from mastiff-type breeds such as the Bulldog and the Great Dane. Originally bred for fighting and bull-baiting, it was also used for farm work, haulage, and hunting large game like wild boar. Thanks to its endurance and bravery, the Boxer is now employed in police and military search-and-rescue operations, as well as for guard duties. Its proud posture, prominent jaw, and history of working roles give the impression of an imposing dog, and it does have a strong protective instinct. However, at heart, the Boxer is a loving, loyal, and affectionate companion. It craves attention and makes a boisterous but patient friend for children. This high-energy breed is best suited to active owners, as it remains playful well into adulthood. A daily two-hour walk with plenty of room to run is ideal. At home, it benefits from having a spacious yard to explore. Intelligent yet strong-willed, the Boxer requires consistent and patient training but responds well to clear leadership. Early socialization helps it adapt to other household pets, though its hunting instincts may be triggered by birds or small animals during walks.
