About

Blue-coated hounds of this type were used in 12th-century France for hunting wolves, deer, and boar. The modern Basset Bleu de Gascogne was established in the 20th century and remains less well-known than other Gascony hounds. A low-set dog, it is not particularly fast but compensates with remarkable persistence, tracking its quarry for hours once it picks up a scent. This hound makes a keen outdoor companion and a good household pet, though, like many scent hounds, it requires patience when it comes to training and socialization.
