One of the oldest water dogs in Europe, the Barbet has a lineage tracing back to the Middle Ages and has influenced the development of many other breeds. Its thick, curly coat provides excellent protection for working dogs but requires high maintenance, which may contribute to its decline in popularity. Despite this, the Barbet remains a friendly and tolerant breed, making it a great companion for both children and other dogs.
