Despite its misleading name, this shepherd dog was actually developed in the United States. Its name originates from its ancestors, which were herded by Basque shepherds who migrated to Australia in the late 19th century before eventually settling in the USA. The Australian Shepherd remains a highly capable ranch dog and tracker, while also gaining increasing recognition as a pet.
