One of the most elegant breeds, the Afghan Hound has an unknown origin but is believed to have arrived in Afghanistan via ancient trade routes. Historically used by tribal chieftains to track deer, wild goats, and even snow leopards, its long, flowing coat protected it from the harsh mountain climate. In the 1930s, Zeppo Marx of the Marx Brothers introduced the breed to the United States, where it gained popularity among celebrities. Independent and lively, the Afghan Hound excels in sports and obedience events while also making a unique companion.
